November 2022 - It's been a while since our last update. We are continuing to complete regular road tests. Each time getting better and better. We have tidied up the drains and polished the linkages, painted and polished the smokebox door. Made big end covers, an oil box for the running board with a nod to my grandfather. Made a tube brush rod and mount. It's all slowly coming together
October 2022 - Since our last post we have made new rings and fitted the new piston and hardened rod. Had a successful test run and identified the final minor motion work noises. So we have removed/ installed and made new valve guide bushes and a F & R lay shaft.
August 2022 - After the events of a few weeks ago we are slowly making all the bits so we can get going again.
Unfortunately we found the piston rod was bent as a result of the broken piston.
So we have made a new piston and piston rod.
Up next is the rings
July 2022 - As with any restoration, it's not all plain sailing. Unfortunately we have taken a couple steps back with parts of the LP piston and rings deciding they wanted to get out.
June 2022 - Today we achieved a significant milestone, some legal on road running. We have fitted some temporary front tyres, to allow us to give the engine a full shake down. A few minor tweaks to make. But overall all went very well and quiet
January 2022 - We are one step closer to running on the road. Both rear tyres are fitted and both wheels back on. The winch has been bored out and the hub re-sleeved. Hopefully now a little quieter than before
January 2022 - As with any project sometimes it is 1 step forward and 1 step back. That's the case at the moment. We have removed the winch hub, to tighten that up. We weren't happy with the noise it was making with the drum floating on it. We have begun fitting the tyres. Big thanks to the Lintern family for their help and to the steam traction engine society for the loan of the tools.
December 2021 - Tis the season for nice new shiny things, 9890 is no different. We now have the cylinder caps chromed, some sweet new brass nuts to finish it off, thanks Zac
Now we move onto cutting and fitting the rubber tyres
